What is a Tarblooder?

Half man, half robot. A Tarblooder is a symbol of fearlessness and ethics.

The Glenville High School mascot received its named from the men working in the railroads in the 1900's.

These men drove and tarred stakes into the railroad tracks ground to secure them to the ground. The hot tar would splatter onto their arms and face causing them to bleed as if they were sweating blood.

Many of these men lived in the Glenville community, when the school was originally erected in 1919 on Everton and Parkwood avenues, the men became a symbol. The Mighty Tarblooder.

Today, the school is located at 650 East 113th Street, and has refined the athletic and academic talents of many notable politicians, artists, educators, comedians, writers, musicians as well as athletes.

So, as we say 'The Ville: Go Tarblooders...Sweat Blood!

Who are the people behind tarblooder.com?

Tarblooder.com is dedicated to everything Glenville. It is an opportunity to celebrate our community and our kids! This site will feature press clippings, game schedules, upcoming events and news of the Glenville Athletic Department. The wonderful photography featured on this site is provided by Walter Novak. Tarblooder.com is designed, created and maintained by the Glenville Class of '92! (Taylor's Angels :o)

This site will be updated weekly. If you have any suggestions and or comments please complete the online submission form on the Contact Us page.

Ultimately, we feel that it is equally as important to celebrate the rich history of the Glenville community. Our hope is to expand this website to include all things Glenville past and present, academic and athletic. Most of us believe, once a Tarblooder, always a Tarblooder.

So, stop by the school. Stop by and say hi to an old teacher or a couple of former classmates (Thanks Frank ('89) Tony ('91) and Michelle ('92) who are helping to shape the future of the Ville, and lets develop a plan to give back!
